Emotional Support Animal Comprehensive Clinical Assessment
Are you wondering if your pet could qualify as an Emotional Support Animal?
An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is a companion animal that provides therapeutic benefit to their owner. The concept of the emotional support animal might appear to some to be a recent phenomenon however, animals have been used in human treatment since as early as the 1940s to assist veterans in their rehabilitation process, both mentally and physically.
Today, Emotional Support Animals (ESA’s) are widely accepted in commercial stores, transportation travel and local festivals. While some people may argue that ESA’s are not as vital or effective as Service Animals, those who rely on an emotional support animal would be quick to disagree. People suffering from mental illness stand to gain significant relief from their symptoms of depression, anxiety and PTSD triggers.
You may want to ask yourself the following questions:
- Are suffering from anxiety or depression
- Do you have a pet that alleviates the symptoms of your mental illness
- Do you rely on your pet for comfort or affection
- Do you believe that your pet may qualify as an Emotional Support Animal
- Would like to have your pet evaluated to become an ESA
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then you may benefit from an Emotional Support Animal screening.
Prior to your ESA Comprehensive Clinical Assessment, an up to date copy of your animals most recent physical indicating that they do not have an aggressive history will be required. This is to ensure that any animal deemed an Emotional Support Animal is safe to be around the public.
