About Anchor the Soul Counseling

At Anchor the Soul Counseling, I understand that life can feel overwhelming at times. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or difficult life transitions—wondering if the decisions you’re making are the right ones. Therapy offers a safe space to gain perspective, increase self-esteem, and reframe negative thoughts so you can feel more confident and balanced.

I’m Melissa Davis, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Seton Hall University. Since 2007, I’ve helped individuals, couples, and families across North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida through secure telehealth sessions. My work includes supporting clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, family challenges, and personal growth.

My Approach

Every person’s story is unique, and so is the counseling approach that best supports them. I’m trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Systems Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I also specialize in Trauma-Focused CBT, Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress (SPARCS), and the Strengthening Families Program.

I use an integrative approach—tailoring each session to your current needs—so your goals guide our work together. Whether you’re navigating stress, healing from trauma, or seeking greater clarity in life, my focus is on helping you grow at your own pace.

Core Values

  1. Trust

Building trust is at the heart of therapy. You deserve a counselor who listens, respects your experiences, and offers honest guidance. If I’m not the right fit for your needs, I’ll help you find someone who is.

  2. Fairness

I understand that private counseling is an investment. My goal is to make therapy accessible and transparent by clearly explaining options and helping you find a path that meets your goals and budget.

  3. Freedom from shame

There is no shame in seeking support. Life can be challenging for everyone—no matter who you are or what you’ve been through, at Anchor the Soul Counseling, you’ll find a compassionate space where your experiences are honored and your healing journey is respected.

FAQS

Questions You May Have

Have questions about starting therapy? You’re not alone.
Our FAQs cover what to expect from online counseling, session costs, insurance options, and how therapy works for individuals, couples, and families across NC, VA and FL

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.

Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
